Welcome to The ear of the heart

About
This space grew out of a simple, personal practice:
reading Scripture slowly and honestly, and learning to listen—
not only to the words on the page, but to the Word speaking through them.
What you will find here are reflections born from Lectio Divina, prayed slowly and imperfectly, most often with the daily Gospel. At times, these reflections are joined by thoughts from the Rule of St. Benedict, the Psalms, and the wider witness of Scripture as it finds its fulfillment in Christ.
These are not teachings or commentaries offered with authority. They are the notes of a Catholic layman who is learning—again and again—how to seek God in the midst of ordinary life.
The Benedictine spirit has shaped this space in simple ways: valuing patience over urgency, faithfulness over intensity, and attention over certainty. It’s a reminder that spiritual life is less about having answers and more about learning how to stay present.
There are moments when these reflections touch on weakness, pain, or perseverance. They aren’t meant to explain those experiences away, but to hold them honestly before God, trusting that He meets us there.
If you are looking for arguments, opinions, or answers to every question, you may not find them here. If you are looking for a place to slow down, to sit with the Word, and to let it read you as much as you read it, you are welcome.
Everything shared here comes from within the Catholic tradition, and is offered with gratitude for the many people—monks, teachers, and everyday believers—who have shown that a life of faith can be steady, gentle, and real.
