Hail, Full of Grace
You will conceive in your womb and bear a son.
he said, “Hail, full of grace! The Lord is with you.” But she was greatly troubled at what was said and pondered what sort of greeting this might be.” Mary being troubled by the greeting stood out to me. I did some research on the original Greek. The literal translation and flow is “But she, having seen, was greatly disturbed at the saying, and was pondering what sort of greeting this might be.” So what kind of greeting is it? When we pray we say “Hail Mary, full of grace”. Why didn’t the angel greet her by name? Because he specifically greets her by her state of grace, he says “having-been-graced”. It is a completed action not something that is to come.
