Prayer That Anchors the Day

In Chapter 8, St. Benedict’s ordering of prayerful time gives concrete shape to St. Paul’s call to “pray without ceasing.” For oblates, this does not mean keeping monastic hours exactly, but allowing regular prayer—Morning and Evening Prayer, lectio divina, simple moments of recollection—to anchor the day. These fixed points train the heart to return to God repeatedly, so that prayer gradually extends beyond set times and becomes an interior attitude. In this way, structured prayer serves continual prayer: life itself is slowly gathered into God’s presence through faithful, ordinary rhythms.
